Argentina narrowly won 1-0 over Peru in the South American Qualifiers for the 2024 World Cup on November 20. Only one goal, scored by Lautaro Martínez, sealed the match. With this, he scored his 32nd goal for Argentina, equalling the record of the legendary Diego Maradona. It is an important and historic milestone.
Argentina took the lead in the 55th minute when Lionel Messi made an excellent cross to Martinez, who directed the ball into the top-right corner with a half-volley from a very precise pinpoint cross by Messi. Peru had little luck breaking through the Argentine defense, and with all their efforts, they were unable to level the game.
Argentina's defense was solid, though Emiliano Martinez had to make some crucial saves, and the midfield of Rodrigo De Paul and Leandro Paredes had dictated the flow of this match, leaving few chances for Peru to counter.
Brazil played out to a 1-1 draw against Uruguay on the same day in a crucial CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier. Federico Valverde opened the scoring for Uruguay, but Gerson from Brazil canceled that out in the second half; both teams will share the spoils. This result puts additional pressure on Brazil, which goes behind the leaders in the rankings, to secure its qualification for the World Cup.
The Argentina-Peru matches can be caught on several platforms. These matches can be also followed live on ESPN, Sky Sports, and beIN Sports. ESPN+ and FuboTV are some of the streaming services.

Argentina are at 25 points from 12 games, now five points ahead of Uruguay, the closest rival in CONMEBOL. Meanwhile, the situation for Peru has not changed-one point is still the gap between them and the bottom.
